You bathed them, you fed them, you even changed their diapers once. And what do you get? A spoiled brat or an angst of skunk?! Soon as they hit 18, they take off and leave. After all the
trouble and menace you went through for them, you'll be left alone with your wife. Perhaps you'll be tending the gardens or even play poker with other senile fools like you!
Life is a chaos when they're around, but it can't get any sweeter than this. So while you still have the pleasure of time to be with your kids, make the most out of it. Oh no, I'm not trying to be Dr. Phil! But I'd say that I look like Nate and I'm trying to give my life as a father a flip of makeover.
As a birthday gift to my 7- year old son, I gave his nook of fantasy (a.k.a. Joshua's bedroom) a little lift. He's always been fascinated with superheroes stuff so I decided to design his bedroom like Batman's Cave, Superman's planet, and
Spiderman's web. I actually jumbled it up.
I painted the room in light blue as a fitting contrast to his colorful bedsheets and curtains in raging red, black, and green. I also bought him a Superman carpet, a Spiderman lamp, and a Batman study table. At least I believe they're a perfect mix to my taste and my child's incredible senses.
For a touch of finish, Joshua insisted that we use duck stamps to his walls. I was fussy at first when I recalled a nursery rhyme we used to sing about rubber duckies. And that inflated my heart as a father.
Sometimes, I would stay with Joshua whenever his mom would kick me out of our room. We'd always play and I'd read him stories. It's only now that I realize the importance of creating that paradise for your kid. A spot in the house that will be exciting and enjoyable for him while every year is a countdown for his soon adult life.
